Whoo hoo!!!! I’m so excited! I booked my flight for March!

I figured this is the absolute best time to go b/c:

1. I am getting my taxes back

2. Flight tickets are about to go up b/c of gas prices.

3. I have paid vacation time at work which once I buy this business I will not.

4. I got my passport a couple of weeks ago.

5. Discover just sent me a credit card where if I spend $1000 in the first 3 months then they will give me $100. Plus I get 1% back on all purchases and 5% back on certain purchases that change every few months. This month it happens to be travel! And they told me if I click on the link from their site to travelocity.com then I will get another additional 5% off. It is probably a referral fee that travelocity pays them and then they give it back to me. All in all, I think I am going to save $179 on my $791 ticket. ROCKIN!

You can sign up at Discover.com too! They said to keep checking their site b/c they offer different application deals. Discover is the company that started No Annual Fees too so no worries there!!!

My brain is fried

Fried like those old commercials…. this is your brain and this is your brain on drugs except there are no drugs just overstimulation. From taxes to trying to get a business loan, then throw in a brainstorming session with the Greensboro Small Business Owner group, audit training at work, and my roommate’s sister’s Thirty One party (monogramed designer bags).

To top it off, my dog decides  to run away at the beginning of the party. I had to drive two complexes over to find him. He found a guy and his two friends to hang out with. Mind you, I was going to name my dog fruitcake originally. I decided not to b/c I remembered how embarassing it is to call across the dog park a weird name. My last dog was named Poopie. Ha! I always knew Pepe was gay! He must have ran away b/c there were all girls at my place. He was seeking out some sexy testosterone. Work it Pepe work it! Ha! I could have killed him and he did get spanked.

Anyways, while cleaning my room I came across this free book that I was given at a Kanye West and Rihanna concert. I went to this awesome concert a few years ago with my old co-worker! It was at the amphitheather in Raleigh. The book was written by Kanye himself and it is called Thank You and You’re Welcome. It has a lot of really quotes. I thought I’d share:

1. You can’t soar with eagles if you’re walking around with chickens….. basically surround yourself with people that give good energy that support your goals

2. Would you rather have 100% from an average person or 10% from someone who is outstanding?

3. Life is 5% of what happens and 95% how you react.

4. Think it. Say it. Do it.

5. Would you believe in what you believe in if you were the only one who believed in it?

6. 2 keys to happiness are A) being able to tolerate things that make you unhappy and B) being able to change things to make you happy.

Back to Pepe, thank you God for keeping my dog alive. He was walking on the side of the street during rush hour when it was almost dark. I do love him even if he does stupid stuff like this.

A word on patience

02/22/2011

I need some! I feel like I am waiting on everyone else right now and wondering why everyone operates so slow. Maybe I should be asking myself why do I operate so fast….

Right now, I am waiting on:

1.  The bank to review the info for the loan.

2. My friend to contact me back so I can book my flight to Munich, Germany.

Last night, I had to wait on the server at Olive Garden. I hate waiting and eating out when everyone else and their mother is eating out. Unfortunately, Olive Garden is ALWAYS busy.

I once read a book that I bought on impulse (ah the irnony – LOL!)  at Barnes and Nobles called The Power of Patience. It basically says that  you need to practice patience. This is not something you can learn by reading about it and it gave many examples of things one can do. I need to remind myself of these things regularly.  Here are some of my notes of the ones I liked the best:

1. Recognize your impatience triggers and give a warning before you freak out.

2. If you find yourself in a boring situation, then find some humor or something of interest around you. If you can’t, then try harder!

3. Look at the big picture – will this matter in a week, month, year, or 5 years?

4. Remember waiting makes things more worth it in the end!

5.  Instead of saying why me say what can I learn from this. Life is not a holiday. It is an education.  Have faith that it will work out!

6.  Have something of great interest in your mind that you can use to distract you from the situation… it can be a business idea, prayer, songs, etc.

7. Focus on your breathing by thinking I am aware of breathing in and take a breath. Then think I am aware of breathing out and exhale. Or you can focus on walking – think to yourself how your feet feel on the floor. Then pick one foot up and notice how it feels. Place it back down with awareness and repeat. It’s called walking meditation.

8. Ask for help!!! Lots of times we are impatient b/c we are overloaded.

9. Anytime we proclaim something as boring, what we are really saying is that we don’t have patience for it. Rather than looking at ourselves as the source of the problem and therefore having the solution, we look at whatever is provoking the feeling and label that the problem.

I am sooooo happy that I will be off for the next 2 days!  Whoo hoo!

I need to make the t-shirts for my indoor soccer team. I was able to get my friends’ business (my336deals.com) to sponsor us! Yay! I hope they turn out fabulous!!! I better start praying about that! This is the first time I will be making shirts for people other than myself or my friends.

Here’s a pic of the first shirt I ever made:

Muchacha blanca means white girl in Spanish. Lol! I was putting together words in spanish class in funny ways so I could remember them better. This is what I came up with!

I bought this t-shirt making machine last year off of an infomerical. It’s the first thing I have ever bought from one of those! So far I have been happy with it! I just don’t find much time to make shirts. Of course the infomercial made it look like it took 5 minutes when in reality it probably takes an hr to an hr and a half.  If anyone knows of anyone that needs shirts, then let me know! I can make them inexpensively!

Life is full of twists and turns

This morning I had my usual half sandwich for breakfast. Then I poked around in the kitchen and decided to eat a fortune cookie too. Today’s fortune is Pray for what you want, but work for the things you need. How very interesting and fitting!

My bff and I somehow got on the topic of testimonies yesterday. Since she grew up in a christian family, she is happy to say that she has known God her whole life. Me on the other hand have had an off again on again relationship with him. She asked me to elaborate so I had to spend a great deal of time thinking about this and this is what I came up with:

I had a tumultuous home life growing up. It’s a wonder that I ever turned back to God. I remember the day that I gave up on God thinking if he can not remove me from this situation then he is not this all powerful, all knowing being. Prior to that, I blamed him for putting me in the situation to begin with, then I just decided one day that he did not exist b/c if he did then he would fix it. I now understand that God cannot affect free will. Basically, he gave us the freedom of choice and our choices affect others. Of course my home life could have been much worse… at least we were not dirt poor, did not have a child molester in the family, were not beaten, etc.

A happier life began for me when I moved out of my parents’ house. I graduated in 1996 but didn’t really start going to church until 2007. There was a little part of me that always believed there was a God. I also spent a lot of time analyzing my mom’s side of the family vs. my dad’s side of the family. My mom’s side is christian and they seem to be happier, much more loving, and super nice! My dad’s side struggles. They are not as nice, get mad at each other and stop talking for long periods of time.

My mom took my sister and I to church when we were younger (up until age 13 for me). I hated it! I hated dressing up and it was soooo boring. It was a traditional baptist church. Also, from what I can remember this church focused a lot on not sinning so you can go to heaven. I could not find the benefit of their messages for everyday life. I dreamed at that time of a church that I could wear jeans to and that they had guitar players. Eventually, through twists and turns I found that church!  Yay!

My first venture back came through a lady who lived at the apartment complex that I work at. She invited my co-worker and I and some of the other residents to her house to watch Rick Warren videos on the purpose driven life. I wanted more purpose in my life and my co-worker and I were friends so once she decided to go then I did too. Plus it was the winter so there was not much else going on. Rick Warren is sooo awesome! He speaks very logically leaving out talk about angels and demons. I like that! We went once a week for 6 weeks and discussed the videos afterwards. The lady that had it at her house encouraged us to find a church. We tried hers but were not really into it. They play R&B music there.

One day my bff and I were hanging out and we ran into my bff’s hair dresser who lived in my building. Somehow she got talking about church and she recommended her church to us which is Day Star. It’s within a mile of where I live. So, we went one day. I liked the pastor b/c he is very logical and gives a lot of real world applications. He is specifically trying to reach out to non-believers. There are people there with tattoos, mohawks and my favorite part – jeans! They have a super awesome rock band too!!!

The girl that was standing at the info table at Day Star was another resident of the apartment complex that I work at. We got to talking and she told me about this small group that she was going to. They have a potluck dinner every week. I was like potluck… I love potluck! I wanna go! First, I made sure that the people were not going to ask me a ton of questions, force me to pray out loud and freak me out with all of there God and angels talk. She said that they were very laid back and I could participate as much or as little as I wanted too. I was like perfect!

I started going and still go to this day! I love listening to everyone’s thoughts on the service, being able to ask questions, and submit prayer requests. Also, it is very interesting to hear a couple of the guys’ opinions b/c they have read the bible a few times.

I have another friend that had been molested by her step dad and she started going with me to church. I asked her what made her decide she wanted to check out small group and Day Star. She said it was curiosity and that she felt like she was searching for something. She found out about free will when her sister told her that God gave us the freedom to choose. She said once she stopped blaming God then she wanted to see what this God that everyone talked about was all about.

She helped me further along by asking all of the questions that I thought about but was afraid to ask in small group… like Does God get mad when we don’t pray?  Ha!

I feel like since I have been going to church and learning about the good book, I have grown as a person. I stopped drinking as much, started volunteering, and have become more loving, understanding, and giving. Also, I love knowing and being in relationship with other christians b/c they are nice and dependable. I know if I needed anything that I could turn to them even if I didn’t know them that well and they would try in any way that they could to help me. Sometimes I am amazed by how far they will go out of their way to help someone.

God promises the fruit of the spirit if you are in relationship with him. The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. This can be found in Galations 5:22-23.

Our lives are like water spilled out on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. That is why God tries to bring us back when we have been separated from him. 2 Samuels 14:14 (love this metaphor)

It’s hump day!

Today’s message is going to be short and sweet because I have a lot of stuff to do this AM starting with going to the grocery store. This is one of my least favorite places to go. As soon as I am making good money, I will pay someone to go grocery shopping for me…

I also need to finish getting my tax information together so I can file my taxes, check my e-mail, pay some bills, etc.

Update:  E-mailed owner of business questions and the info from my bank so I can secure a loan. Still hoping it snows so I can finish selling these sleds and get to use the one I bought for myself! It is really warming up here. However, my co-worker reminded me that it snowed last year in March. I googled it and sure enough he was right! It snowed on March 2, 2010.

Happy hump day everyone! The week is half way over! Whoo hoo!!!

I survived another Valentine’s Day!

Hello world! First I would like to comment on a comment left on my page the other day… I had for dinner on Sat at the German restaurant a  sampler platter. It was beef rouladen stuffed with bacon, onions and pickle, served with spätzle and red cabbage and bratwurst and pork loin. I love spätzle!!! It is a German noodle with a delightful flavor and is served with gravy! There is no American food similar to this so I cannot really describe it. This is what it looks like:

I also tried my sister’s husband’s beer! He had Franziskaner Hefeweizen upon recommendation from others waiting to be seated standing in the bar area. I am not big on hefeweizens. It was ok. I would have loved to have ordered a beer but I had to make the trek back to Greensboro b/c of my beloved dog. It’s just as well! I ate that whole sampler plate and 3 pretzels. It was way too much food which made me tired driving.

Dang I wish I had one of those pretzels right now!

Anyway, on to V-day…  I’m not sure if this day was created to torture women or not but sometimes I think it was. We are doomed if we are single and we are doomed if we are with someone b/c most guys do not see the value in this holiday. I was reading up on how this day came about upon suggestion of a fellow blogger. Here’s the deal: St Valentine was arrested and imprisoned upon being caught marrying christian couples and aiding them. At that time, helping christians was a crime. They stoned and clubbed him but he didn’t die so then on February 14th they beheaded him. Lovely bloody Valentine’s day.

Fortunately this year, I got a head start on the big day.  I was in Wal-mart and saw some beautiful red tulips in a pot. I thought about getting them then wandered around the store and over into the garden section where low and behold they had the same flowers for 50% off. So, I bought them for $2.50. Heck yeah! They smell wonderful!  Practicing self love! For God said Love thy neighbor as thy self so don’t forget to love yourself!

Then I made some cookies for my sweetie! I had some leftover so I ate some and took some to my co-workers. They were happy! Yay! One of my co-workers got 3 bears, 5 balloons, and a bag of candy. Isn’t that sweet! The other 2 of us had to wait until later that night… My super sweet valentine got me a cute white bear, some chapstick, a bag of truffles, a card, and a gift card to Olive Garden! I also got him to hook up my wireless router 🙂

I just love him!

What a fantastic day!

Yesterday was awesome!!! It started off with going to my sister’s pi-yo class that she teaches at her gym. I love pi-yo! It’s a combination of pilates and yoga and it is very flowy. She is an awesome teacher! She gives cues before the next move which keeps things going. There were about 10 people in the class. The room was nice b/c it had carpet!

Then we went to eat at The Cowfish sushi burger bar and my bro-in-law joined us! This place was extremely loud but the food was absolutely fantastic! We had fried pickles as an appetizer! Yum!!! Then I had Doug’s Filet Roll – Crab philly roll topped with thin slices of seared filet mignon, spicy sauce, scallions and masago. It was amazing! I would tell you what my sister and her husband had except I cannot remember b/c my food was so good (everything else was a blur – LOL!).

Then my sister and I went to the Discovery Place. It was sooo much fun!

This is me laying on a bed of nails! The pic is taken from my phone so unfotunately it is hard to see the nails.

My sister and I both took a picture of this smiley frog. It was so cute!

This is a cuttlefish. It was so crazy looking. This guy that worked there dressed in a safari outfit told us that they are the smartest fish. I had no idea! Ha! Here’s some more info: http://www.ehow.com/about_6302481_cuttle-fish-information.html

They also had a whole exhibit on race. I learned some things like that all of mankind originated in Africa. At that time, all people were dark and hairless. As people moved out of that region, their bodies adapted and became lighter. This was so your skin would allow the sun to penetrate you more further from the equator to receive vitamin D. We also grew hair to keep us warmer. There were many many other things about this exhibit… This place can be overwhelming though so this is what I mainly remember. Discovery Place had exhibits on science projects, super bugs, architecture, marine life, etc. Also, a 3D movie was included that we watched about sharks!

The architecture part was very neat! I took a picture of this info about the Eiffel Tower but the picture is too small to read:

Bad idea!

Many French citizens did not like Eiffel’s design.

It will…

…crush my house!

…dishonor Paris!

…change the weather!

…kill the fish!

…sink into the ground!

…become the center of Paris!

On the last point they were right. The Eiffel Tower is now a famous symbol of one of the most beloved cities in the world.

Very inspiring!!! That’s the way I feel about people telling me not to go in business for myself….  Gotta be careful who I am listening to. Everyone is so worried about the risk. Look around people there are businesses everywhere!

After this my sister, husband, and I went to a German restaurant called Waldhorn! Again the food was amazing! They brought us homemade pretzels to start for free! Yummy! Here are some pictures of the food and restaurant from their website: http://www.waldhorn.us/our_photos.htm

The day went by so fast. I guess time really does fly when you are having fun! My sister and I did stop by a business similar to the one I want to buy in Greensboro too! I am still feeling really good about this business even though the numbers aren’t looking as good as I was told they were…

Everyone loves the last day of the work week. We made it through another week people!!! Now we can feel free as a bird until Monday! Free to do what we want when we want! Life is good!!!

This bird’s name is Jack. My ex-boyfriend trained hawks. I believe he said that this was a red tail hawk. It was hard to pay attention to all of the bird talk especially with the actual birds around. They are 1 and 1/2 to 2 feet tall.

So what’s on for the weekend? This weekend warrior is going to meet with her business consultant, visit her sister and her husband in Charlotte (taking my sister’s pi-yo class at the gym, check out a German restaurant, etc), go to church (the topic is Love and Humor – I am excited about the humor part), and kickball practice!!!

By the way, last night I scored for the first time at my indoor soccer game!!! Whoo hoo!!! I’m official!!! I also got my passport in the mail!!! What a great day!

P.S. I found the wrist weights i was looking for yesterday!!! Yay!

Keep climbing!!!

Here’s a run down of where I stand:

1. Got info in hand for business I want to purchase and waiting to find out when my business consultant can meet! Today I am going to start working on my business plan. I printed out a template from the SCORE website yesterday. Just gotta fill in the blanks!

2. Haven’t gotten far with helping to facilitate a relationship with God and my 2 close friends. However, I went to small group last night and got some ideas…  I sent this e-mail afterwards to my friend from the group:

Hey Sarah! I decided to google planting seeds and this is what I found:
http://www.ehow.com/how_6734492_plant-seed-faith.html
One of them is exactly what you said to do which is just continually share what is going on in my life within relation to the Lord!
I also found this one!!!
http://www.womentoday.org/Evangelize.html
3. I am sleeping on my back most nights which is good for my back! I am also sleeping with my electric blanket. I love this thing! It’s like sleeping in the bed with a significant other – warm and cuddly. LOL!
4. I am donating $25 a month to relay for life so they can find the cure for cancer. I have mailed off the amount for Jan and Feb!
5. I still have not incorporated weights into my work out. Ugh. I am going to go find those wrist weights for zumba right now!!!! TTYL!
P.S. This is a picture of my sister and I hiking last Oct at Grandfather Mountain!
